Wow, what an absolute privilege it is to have stayed in this property. We very much enjoyed being the King and Queen of Wolkersdorf for a few days! Everything was just perfect for us – The incredible design and modern beauty of the house, the location of the property (with easy access to local villages and further afield), the support of the owners Alexandra and Alexander (pre-booking and during our stay), and the house's facilities.
The pictures evidence a beautiful property but the space and design are all the better in person. The house is brand new and styled beautifully, with high quality fixtures and fittings. It is a home away from home and it really does have everything you could possibly need - we tried to find something it was missing! Most of the time when we thought we’d found something, it was because we hadn’t yet uncovered it, not because it wasn’t there! We live in a terraced property in the UK, so enjoyed the space and the ability to enjoy a sauna and a relaxing bath after a long day out and about. I side-stepped the static bike mind!
To get the best from a holiday here, I would highly recommend hiring a car, which we did (having flown into Munich airport). We then had easy access to local villages and shops, as well as places further afield. Our favoured supermarket for essentials was Lidl in Traunstein, which has a good selection of food and nice fresh fruit and vegetables. There is also an Aldi next door. The house contains a raft of information (books, guides, etc) on walks and activities in the area, which, whilst in German, still give a good feel for those who are not proficient in the language. We were also provided with an activities list (several pages!) in English prior to arrival. Even if you stayed a month I don’t think you’d be short of things to do! We had hoped to do more in the Berchtesgaden National Park (in terms of mountain walks) but due to unforeseen circumstances were unable to – If you want a hike with a view however, the area is not short of these! We enjoyed the following: Day at Konigssee (walk and boat trip to St Bartholomew’s Church) and Ramsau bei Berchtesgaden; day in Salzburg seeing the sights and an evening Mozart concert in the Mirabell Palace; day in Traunstein and watching the sunset over Chiemsee; and a day doing the “Sound of Music Trail” in Werfen, Austria, followed by a guided walk in the ice caves at Eisriesenwelt.
We hope to be lucky enough to return one day. It was a dream stay.
