Wedding Party stopover

Booked on 7 June for 3 nights arriving 7 September to attend a wedding. Our friends were staying there for a week, they had seen other people who had booked being sent to the Coral Beach Hotel. Our friends checked to ensure that our room was booked and available (Superior Studio) self catering, reception confirmed that it was. On arrival at 2230 we were told that there were no rooms available and sent to Coral Beach Hotel 10 kilometers away, the hotel paid the taxi and promised to arrange free return taxi to Pathos Gardens (PG) at whatever time we required. Coral Beach hotel was very nice and seemed to be the same standard as we assumed the PG would be. In the morning we had breakfast there courtesy of PG, we asked for a taxi transfer at 1100, the hotel said we would have to wait for the coach taking the other transfer clients, after a bit of arguing they agreed to supply a taxi and we returned to PG. On arrival we were told that we would have to wait until 1300 as the room was being cleaned. They gave us a free lunch (we were self catering with no kitchen as we didn't have a room yet). At 1330 we arrived at the room it was being cleaned. At about 1345 we finally got into the room and unpacked (note this was the second packing and unpacking for a 3 night stopover). Room inventory: No settee, no rug (don't believe the pictures), there was a kettle (didn't work) the safe had no batteries and didn't work, there was very little in the way of cutlery and the cooking facilities were very basic, TV was OK if you like news channels, one bedside light didn't work, the top drawer of the chest of drawers was broken and unusable. We reported the light, immediately. On leaving bedside light still didn't work. On Sunday we asked for an Iron and Ironing Board, used the iron and returned it on the way to the wedding cancelled the ironing board which never turned up. Room service only turned up as we were leaving on the final day. Coral Hotel was 4 star, PG was possibly 3 star at best. Garden view from the patio was a view of a patch of dirt with 2 trees and opposite an accommodation block. During our stay and as we left people were still being transferred to Coral Beach hotel. Had we known what PG was like we would have stayed at Coral Beach.

Great place to relax

First time we had stayed there, it was clean and tidy and the staff were very helpful. Pool was large and clean, although some of the sunbeds needed attention. Evening entertainment was of a good standard, animation team were friendly but would leave you alone if you did not want to join in with the events they ran during the day.

Paphos Garden Apartments: self-catering break

We stayed in a Superior Studio - 1 king bed apartment. We didn't use any of the hotel amenities, e.g. restaurant, pool, breakfast facilities as that wasn't the sort of holiday we were after but we could have. We just needed good, clean accomodation and access to a general store for some light groceries - and this was provided on the ressort complex. We bought breakfast food and snacks (mainly to keep costs down) and opted for eating out in the evening and this suited us perfectly well. The apartment comprised of an open plan living room and kitchenette, equipped with fridge freezer, microwave, cooker and dining table; the bedroom facilities were clean and comfortable with large wardrobe and dressing table; the separate bathroom was equipped with power-shower/bath, sink and toilet. Housekeeping visited once a day to keep the apartment clean. We had access to a verranda and garden furniture and spent many late evenings taking in the cool night air and sipping a drink or two! There was access to two pools but for us, sitting by a chlorine filled pool in 32 degree heat when the municipal beach was close by (and all the other beauty spots on the island) didn't seem sensible. A word of warning: there were cats everywhere! But as cat lovers it didn't bother us too much and if you do not feed them, they tend to leave you alone. Unfortunately Cyprus has a bit of a ferral cat problem but as I said it was more amusing than annoying. A great ressort and we've signed up for their loyalty scheme so we hope to use them again.
