LOCATION
The town of Montrose is on Scotland’s east coast, nestled between Montrose Basin, a large nature reserve famous for wildfowl and wading birds, and long sandy beaches at Lunan Bay and St Cyrus.
Our apartment is a few minutes’ walk from the centre of the town, and about ten minutes’ walk from the train station.
The town museum was one of the first purpose-built museums in Scotland, and the nearby Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre tells the story of men and women who served there. Visitors interested in history may also enjoy the National Trust for Scotland’s House of Dun just outside the town, or Arbroath Abbey or Glamis Castle nearby.
Head inland for fantastic hill walking in the Angus Glens, or stay local to try out the Montrose Path Network, including a walk out to the Scurdie Ness Lighthouse, and the chance to see seals or dolphins.
Montrose is only 10 miles from the A90, the main northern trunk road from Edinburgh taking you to the cities of Aberdeen or Dundee within an hour, for shopping, theatres and culture. Trains on the East Coast mainline stop at Montrose, directly linking you with the major Scottish cities, as well as Newcastle, York and London. There are also regular flights into Aberdeen and Dundee airports from within the UK and further afield.
