We booked the villa for our two week French holiday having read the reviews and were happy to pay a premium price for it. The location and building are great and do warrant the cost. However … The expectations based on the advertised quality and facilities were not matched by our experience. Our first significant complaint was that despite the presence of equipment, there was no wifi connection to the villa over our two week stay. The TV did not work as it required either the wifi, bluetooth or a digital aerial signal. It had none of these. The grandchildren were extremely disappointed. The lack of wifi and a poor mobile phone signal at the villa meant that we had to cancel work and family group meetings back in UK. Speaking to neighbours who live there, the internet (Orange) problem is well known on the street for over 3 years. Why advertise it if it isn’t available? The equipment within the villa works but no external cable supply during our two week stay. We reported the problem on day two of our holiday and on day 4 the ‘Orange’ engineer confirmed that the wifi ‘ne marche pas’ . Then he left. We confirmed this to the owner’s agent but heard nothing.
Much emphasis is put on the standard of cleanliness of the house and equipment. There is an option to pay €150 to have it cleaned on vacating or conform to a standard prescribed list. We decided to check the standard as found before deciding. I’m glad we did. Had everything been A1, we would have paid the cleaning fee to rid ourselves of the effort.Alas it wasnt. The identified equipment that was to be inspected on vacating was checked against the list on arrival.
Windows. Not dirty but not particularly clean either.
Oven. Certainly not to a standard that we have at home.
Microwave. Clean
Kitchen cupboard surfaces, sticky… we thought fat but after our attempts it seems the paint is causing the stickiness.
Lots of dust under beds and shelves within the upstairs cupboards etc.
Crockery. Quite a number of chips and cracks in plates and cups. However, so much is provided that it wasn’t a major problem.
Apart from the lack of wifi, none of the listed items would have caused complaint apart from the implied threat of a loss of deposit if found not acceptable. Would we stay there again … you bet we would but it would but not at the price unless the standards are improved, or the cost reduced appropriately.
