Well, it's a high rated, award winning castle.
The staff was nice and helpful. Especially when booking. I'm NOT rating the staff.
The rooms need a renovation and are outdated. It's a "historic" castle and not a hyper modern hotel, I know. But it is fool's gold - literally. We paid more than 400 that night. The furniture is just run down, stains everywhere. The bathroom wasn't that clean. The sink was broken. Worst of all was the louver in the bathroom - completely dirty, disgusting. That could be a health issue.
That's just a no go for such a high class historic hotel.
Breakfast was a basic continental buffet with paper cups at tables with table clothes and a seemingly high class surrounding for tourists.
My expectations are quite basic, don't get me wrong.
If they'd charge even half of the price I'd maybe rate it better. But what you pay is NOT what you get. You get an overpriced huge, but outdated castle room. You pay for the appearance.
Again, I'm just rating the room and the breakfast, NOT the staff.
We've been here because of "Royal Pains", it was just nice to be there once in a lifetime.
The castle is nice to see and the garden is somehow enchanted.
And until we realized the turn down service we thought there's a ghost. The rooms are actually a bit scary.
But I don't want to be unfair, so I'll rate it good.
