Beautiful location with a beautiful view. Friendly, responsive host.
The floor had been swept and the linens had been changed (looked like they were new and unlaundered) but the windows were filthy and the sills were encrusted with dead bugs. The walls and couch were dirty. The carpet was old and starting to degrade. It smelled dirty. Area around cabin was unkempt with trash and debris.
There is no potable water onsite. There is a well-built flush toilet outhouse (which was well constructed and clean) and an outdoor handwashing station from a barrel. If you stay there, you have to bring your own water, cooler, and camp kitchen. There are no food prep areas or utensils.
The loft is accessible only by a very narrow, hard to navigate ladder with a 90º turn through a narrow opening. There is a grab bar installed. It wasn't an issue for me, but for someone who has any mobility issues or tends to the larger size, the loft is going to be inaccessible. I had wanted to take my sister, who has late stage cancer, up there for a night or two and with the dirt and accessibility issues, it was not possible.
Rec's for host:
Update the listing to include lack of water, food storage & prep, and detailing accessibility issues. Provide shade for outdoor activities. Deep clean whole thing and replace carpet.
Takeaway
If I had known the conditions, I would have passed on this rental, brought a tent, and stayed at a well-maintained campsite with more amenities for half the cost.
