We knew the hotel didn't have great ratings, but we were having trouble finding lodgings for the eclipse. Our family is used to camping, and we thought "how bad could it really be?"
We would have been better off just sleeping in a park somewhere. Why?
1) The hotel didn't have beds. AT ALL. We slept on the floor, on sheets and blankets laid out. One of our three rooms had a mattress on the floor, but it was a twin (we had reserved a queen), it was brown, and it had no sheets. The other rooms had no mattresses.
2) There was no running water. The toilet was black and dry, and the tap didn't work.
3) If I hadn't gotten there when I did, they wouldn't have had a room for us at all. The people behind me in line had paid reservations and they were turned away. I feel terrible for them because there were literally no other hotels available the night before the eclipse.
I will say the staff guy was really sweet and so apologetic. He seemed like a deer in the headlights trying to tell all these people that their paid reservations didn't matter and they had no rooms, or beds.
