I arrived at Ilanga Estate at about 4pm after driving over 650 kms from Durban . I was turned away at the gate and told the hotel is closed . I insisted on going in and going to the bathroom , the security lady wasn’t too happy about that , the entire place was empty , doors locked , nor one car or a single other person. It was traumatic. I specifically checked into a hotel for room service after heavy days driving and to relax ready for the next leg of my journey . After going to and fro because I was insistent, I had confirmation and full payment was taken. I was given a room at their other hotel The President Naval. They upgraded the room but at 7 Pm I wanted to order dinner and was told their is no one in the hotel . I went out again and couldn’t find a place open , this was 7.30. I am not familiar with Bloemfontein. They could not offer me a single slice of toast . I was promised a great breakfast , I ordered and was happy to have it on my room because I was told I was the only person in the hotel . The breakfast was so disappointing, I ordered soft poached eggs, bacon and half a tomato otie grilled and 2 slices of toast and a pot of strong tea with freSh milk . I received hard rubber looking eggs, Chakalaka, baked beans , bacon . 2 slices very of toast with one serving of butter and jam . A pot of water and one teabag . Possibly my worst hotel experience ever !
